What You Need To Know

We will operate this retreat via Mhai Yoga (FB) and Cuba Candela, enabling a completely legal trip to Cuba.

Once you pay your deposit, we will send you information on traveling through customs in and out of Cuba to ensure that you have a smooth arrival and departure.

With Cuba Candela’s services, traveling legally to Cuba even after the newest laws have changed could not be easier. They take care of all of the paperwork–all you have to do is buy your flight and make sure your passport is up-to-date. The visa for Cuba can be pre-purchased from a travel agency here in the United States, or for a more direct option, you can purchase it in the airport before you depart for Cuba. If you have any reservations or questions about traveling to Cuba with an American passport, we are more than happy to answer all of your questions and concerns. Please contact us and we will get you all the information you need.

When purchasing your flight tickets, ensure that you buy flights that will arrive in Havana before the late evening to ensure an easy taxi ride to Mhai. Once you pay your deposit, we will send you detailed information on how to navigate the Cuban airport and easily get to the Mhai Yoga Retreat.

Cuba is a relatively low-crime country with wonderfully warm and friendly citizens. You can be at ease when walking around Cuba. You can bring your camera and phones with little worries. With that said, it is always an intelligent travel practice to leave precious valuables at home.

Please note: our experience is meant to be totally authentic, vibrant, and amazing–that being said, Cuba is generally not a place of high-end luxury. The accommodations at Mhai are very comfortable yet down-to-earth. If you are looking for a 5-star resort experience, please ask us to refer you to a resort!

This trip is administered by Cuba Candela, a travel services provider authorized by Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to conduct people-to-people and other licensed tours. The program consists of a full-time schedule of authorized people-to-people educational exchange activities which will promote meaningful interaction with the Cuban people.

Items to definitely bring:

  • Yoga clothes for 8 days of practice (Mhai offers a laundry service for a small fee, so you could opt for less clothes)
  • Attire for a few nights of dancing and one day of hiking
  • Bathing suit
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Your preferred toiletries
  • Your passport
  • Spending money – you can exchange currency at the airport
  • Your yoga mat and any props such as blocks or straps
  • Optional: extra mats and props. Cubans do not have access to imports so they often practice yoga on cardboard boxes. Any yoga supplies you can leave behind in Cuba for the grateful Cuban yogis would be excellent.
